Post by ken » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:28 am
In a residential construction:
What do you think about this steel beam-to-header connection?
Is it a good connection?
What's missing factor in the design process?

This is not a good connection to support a steel beam unless the reaction load is small.
As a designer, you need to check several items to ensure the wood header will not be subject to sustaining loads upon the header.
The lateral constraint at the steel beam end needs a check too.
Typically, you will use steel-to-steel connection style instead of steel-to-wood connection.
